Blur Talks: “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” Titles

The opening title sequence for Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” is right up there with SE7EN for stunning opening titles. It was by far one of my favourite parts of the entire film.

Having said that, I don’t quite understand why they used all the imagery that they did (clearly some was referencing the sequels but that seems odd to do in a film about solely the first novel), and have to say it felt more like the opening title sequence to a James Bond film (in fact, with all the oil-like substance flowing it would have fit right in with Quantum of Solace).

However, it’s still absolutely incredible and certainly sets the tone for the film that is to follow. Not to mention that song fucking rocks!

Also, kudos to Blur for staying totally on brand with the titles. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen movie posters with a look distinctly different from that of the titles of a film, and it drives me nuts. Dragon Tattoo on the other hand is consistant through and through (well except maybe for that teaser).
